Here is the begining of a series of short stories and photos of our boundary waters trip. The beauty that we were surrounded by for five days will be hard to describe. How do you capture such dimension with flat photos?
We were awed by the variety of lakes, their shapes and sizes. Then small surprises like fresh water jelly fish (craspedacusta sowerbii) caused us wonder as we didn't even know they existed at all. I watched probably hundreds of them, quarter size, gently pulsating just below the surface.
We were challenged by the different portages and rivers as we hauled 60-80 pounds of gear apiece. And at the end of the day we were rewarded by another beautiful campsite, a warm fire and hearty cooking.
Our last evening was spent on a finger of land that went out into a large lake. The evening was warm enough that we left the rainfly off the tent and finished the evening reading on our sleeping bags as we gazed into the starry sky above. As we were lulled to sleep by the waves, the grand finale to our wonderful adventure was displayed by the heavens. We were treated to a dramatic show of northern lights.

Wow. I'm looking forward to reading more about the trip. (fresh water jellyfish - I've never heard of such a thing. Fascinating.) Glad you guys had such a good time!
