We walked away. The way I see it, we held to reasonable terms and didn't succumb to the fluorescent lights, new car smell and subtle, round about tactics used by salesmen. So we don't have a car-yet. The whole experience is a bit stressful, but in the end we still have time, more knowledge and two cars with heat.

Nice! Just out of curiosity, what kind of car are you looking at? Station wagon? Bigger? Smaller?
we've been checking out kia sportages and sorentos.
they have great warranties (60 thou miles) and are well priced for their engines/features.
we couldn't find well made wagons that we were comforatble with. plus, their cost is pretty much the same as the suv's we're looking at.
It's difficult to stick to your guns and walk away.
I'm impressed.
Check with a car broker(maybe your bank or credit union)! We had an independent one connected with our credit union in AZ and he looked for exactly what we wanted and then ended up not charging us a finder's few...and thanks to AZ...no sales tax when between parties!
